In 1978, Melvin was shot in the hand and leg while trying to stop a man from stealing his
car. The man recognized Melvin, then shoved him out of the
car. The Tempts had an upcoming tour of Europe. This incident
prevented Melvin going. However, Otis, Richard, Louis, and Glenn went
ahead.
Died February 23, 1995 in Los Angeles of complications following a brain seizure
